Description of treatment

Liposuction (suction assisted fat removal) is a body contouring procedure involving the removal of unnecessary fat from specific parts of the body (usually from the area of the thighs, hips and abdomen). The treatment results in a significant slimming and shaping of parts of the body undergoing liposuction.

Liposuction involves introducing a thin cannula (tube) deep into the skin, which allows aspiration of unwanted fat cells. To enter into the skin, the surgeon makes a small (about 3-4 mm) incision of the skin. The doctor moves the cannula under the skin, so there is no need for multiple incisions.

Liposuction is not a weight loss procedure, but shaping the body, therefore, it is carried out in healthy patients with little overweight and elastic skin (with excess body fat only in certain parts of the body, as the outer surface of the thighs, buttocks, abdomen, shoulders, knees). During surgery entire fat cells are removed (but never all the fat cells in that area) so even if the patient puts up weight, the effect of the treatment in these parts of the body is still visible. Liposuction is performed in intravenous anesthesia.

Facts

The effects of liposuction are permanent and in the place of liposuction you cannot gain weight.

Liposuction involves the suction of whole fat cells (but not the total fat). After the procedure less of them remain in the area so it is more difficult to gain weight in this place.

Myths

Liposuction is not carried out in people over 40 years of age.

Age is not a contraindication for the surgery, while poor state of health But the fact remains that the results of liposuction are better in people before the age of 50 due to higher skin elasticity.

After liposuction there remain ugly furrows.

Properly performed liposuction leaves no unattractive furrows. They are the result of an overly aggressive procedure (sucking off too much fat) or too shallow liposuction.

Preparation for the surgery

Each surgery is a burden for the human body. That is why our specialists always conduct interviews to qualify patients for surgery. General conditions for the surgery to be conducted include:

  • good health (we do not perform procedures in patients with infections, particularly upper respiratory infections; anesthetic consultation is sometimes also recommended);
  • it is necessary to test bleeding time and blood coagulation time, and perform complete blood count;
  • it is advisable that the patient was vaccinated against hepatitis B virus (infectious hepatitis), but it is not a necessary condition to perform the procedure.

Possible complications

In our clinic we put the greatest emphasis on providing patients with maximum safety. Each patient receives comprehensive information about the procedure, including about the possible complications (the doctor discusses them in detail during the consultation prior to the procedure).

Postoperative care

If liposuction covered a large area of the body, the patient remains at the clinic until the next day; with smaller procedures a patient can normally return home later that same day. After the procedure it is advisable to wear special compression garment for up to two months (depending on the place, extent of the procedure and condition of the skin). For 5 days after the procedure it is advisable to take medicine to reduce blood clotting.

Postoperative recomendations

The final effect of liposuction happens after 4-6 weeks. From the second week after the procedure specialized massage is recommended. Compression garments (trousers or belt) should be worn throughout the convalescence period (about 2 weeks), as recommended by your doctor. Intense tanning of scars is not recommended within half a year after the surgery, but if you cannot avoid it, scars after liposuction should be protected using sun cream with high UV protection.

Within 3 weeks after the procedure avoid exercise and performing sudden movements.
