Description of treatment

Abdominal prolapse surgery (abdominoplasty) is a correction procedure involving the removal of excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen. The effect of treatment is apparent flattening of the stomach and slender waist.

Abdominoplasty can apply to both obese persons and those who only have a sagging skin fold, e.g., after birth.

Abdominoplasty is a procedure performed under general intravenous anesthesia. The operation involves abdominal incision above the pubic symphysis (usually one, rarely a few notches - depending on the surgeon's decision), separating the skin-fold fat from the abdominal fascia in order to subsequently slide the skin as much as possible down to the bottom, stretch it, and then remove the excess. This technique allows not only to remove the fatty skin fold, but also to get rid of any stretch marks and old scars.

In the case of extensive surgery, it is also necessary to perform a correction of the position of the navel (this is not necessary for the removal of skin-fold fat from the abdomen). For this purpose, an incision is made around the navel, which allows - after stretching the skin of the abdomen - to place the navel in a natural position.

During the procedure, if necessary, the plastic surgery of the straight muscles of the abdomen is performed, which can flatten the abdomen and lead to a permanent effect of the treatment? Surgery may be connected with the suction of fat (liposuction) from the area of the abdomen and hips, allowing to achieve more visible results. Scars after the surgery are situated low enough to be hidden in underwear or bikini.

Facts

After this operation there are two scars.

One scar is the result of the removal of excess skin, the other - the result of navel position correction, but two scars occur only in the case of extensive abdomen sagging surgery. Scars are delicate and almost invisible. You can hide them under the underwear or bikini.

Myths

After abdominoplasty one should no longer decide to get pregnant.

Abdominoplasty does not rule out getting pregnant, terming it or giving natural childbirth. One should, however, account for the fact that the extension of the skin during pregnancy can worsen the primary effect of the procedure.

Abdominoplasty surgery is only for the young

Abdominoplasty is also performed in elderly patients (the requirement is good health). In this case, abdominoplasty is more effective than for example liposuction (due to the weakened skin elasticity).

Preparation for the surgery

Each surgery is a burden for the human body. That is why our specialists always conduct interviews to qualify patients for surgery. General conditions for the surgery to be conducted include:

  • good health (we do not perform procedures in patients with infections, particularly upper respiratory infections; anesthetic consultation is sometimes also recommended);
  • procedures are not carried out during menstrual discharge, due to the reduced blood coagulability;
  • it is necessary to test bleeding time and blood coagulation time, and perform complete blood count;
  • it is advisable that the patient was vaccinated against hepatitis B virus (infectious hepatitis), but it is not a necessary condition to perform the procedure.

Possible complications

In our clinic we put the greatest emphasis on providing patients with maximum safety. Each patient receives comprehensive information about the procedure, including about the possible complications (the doctor discusses them in detail during the consultation prior to the procedure).

Postoperative care

After the procedure drains are applied for 12 hours that allow the blood outlet. The abdomen is protected with bandage dressings and elastic compression waistband . Dressings are needed for up to two weeks, during which time the patient visits the clinic to change the dressings and to have the stitches removed.

Surgical wound heals after about 14 days, and total healing takes about 2 months. However, it is worth to known that:

  • after the procedure you may experience swelling of the operated area, pain during movement;
  • over a period of several weeks after surgery in the area of surgical wound, fluid can accumulate, which is removed during dressing change at the clinic;
  • after surgery it is advisable to use products to support the healing of scars (as recommended by your doctor).

Postoperative recomendations

For the first three weeks of the surgery physical activity is forbidden(e.g., lifting heavy objects). Unless your doctor tells you otherwise - for 1.5 months after the surgery you should wear a compression belt. During this time, you should not play sports. Within half a year tanning of scars is also forbidden (also in the solarium) and - for the first 2 weeks after the surgery - use of the sauna is forbidden.
